The 2025 AI Spring Summit: A Call to Build, Question, and Transform
This spring, attendees gathered for the 2025 AI Spring Summit hosted by the Data Science and AI (DSAI) Hub in partnership with the Health AI Institute. This event wasn’t just a conference, it was a convergence of possibility, purpose, and people. Together, we asked the hard questions, sparked the urgent conversations, and co-created the ideas that will help shape the future of AI and data science in Minnesota and beyond.
The summit brought together researchers, technologists, policymakers, ethicists, students, healthcare innovators, and community leaders under one shared belief: that artificial intelligence, when developed with intention and integrity, can be a force for good.
A Space for Bold Ideas and Real-World Impact
Throughout the three days, we dove into a range of timely and complex topics: rural healthcare innovation, predictive modeling in public health, data sovereignty, the ethics of machine learning, and the global patchwork of AI governance. These weren’t abstract discussions. They were grounded in real-world application and future-forward thinking.
We heard stories from researchers building tools to increase access to care in remote areas. We examined how machine learning can reduce bias, or reinforce it. We questioned where responsibility lies when algorithms fail. And we explored how European legislation, like the AI Act, could influence legal frameworks and lawsuits here in the U.S., where policy still lags behind innovation.
What emerged was clear: AI is not just a technological challenge, it’s a societal one. And solving it will take all of us.
A Community That Shows Up
The success of the AI Spring Summit wasn’t just in the programming, it was in the people. It was in the thoughtful questions, the hallway debates, the nods of recognition across disciplines. It was in the willingness to listen, to challenge assumptions, and to imagine something better.
We are deeply grateful to our collaborators at the Health AI Institute, our dynamic speakers, engaged attendees, and the dedicated volunteers and staff who brought this day to life. Your energy and insight transformed a series of sessions into a vibrant exchange of ideas. Your curiosity and care continue to shape this field in powerful ways.
What Comes Next
The conversations sparked at the summit won’t stop here. They are already rippling out into research agendas, classroom discussions, grant proposals, pilot programs, and cross-sector collaborations. And they will continue, as we collectively navigate what it means to build AI that truly serves the public good.
We encourage you to revisit the keynotes and panels, reflect on what stood out to you, and share those insights within your own communities.

Together, We Build
At the DSAI Hub, we believe that building ethical, effective, and equitable AI starts with questions, not answers. And the most important ones aren’t always technical. They’re human.
The future doesn’t just happen, it’s built. It’s built by those who show up, who ask better questions, and who remain committed to shaping a future where technology reflects our highest values.
So… what question will you ask next?
