University Launches Instructor’s Guide to AI Literacy
The University of Minnesota is making it easier for instructors and staff to build confidence with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) through a new resource: GenAI + U: Instructor’s Guide to AI Literacy.
Developed by Academic Technology Support Services (ATSS) and the Center for Educational Innovation (CEI), in collaboration with partners across the university, this online course provides a streamlined introduction to AI in education. The course is available to all faculty and staff throughout the UMN system.
Delivered asynchronously through Canvas, the course can be completed in just 1–2 hours. Participants will gain the skills to:
- Understand the fundamentals of generative AI.
- Explore the University’s available AI tools.
- Consider ethical and responsible applications of AI in teaching.
- Learn to craft effective prompts for classroom and professional use.
The goal is to give instructors practical, responsible ways to engage with AI in their teaching and academic work.
Interested faculty and staff can begin the course at z.umn.edu/GenAI_U_Instructor. Questions may be directed to [email protected].
Additional resources for using AI in teaching are available at the Teaching Support website and broader university resources at ai.umn.edu.
