(In)Justice Series on Data & Power: Who Owns Your Medical Information?
In an era of rapid technological change, the boundaries between improved care, surveillance, and profit are increasingly blurred. This conversation brings together experts to examine how health data is collected, shared, and used—and how those practices often reinforce inequities. From genetic tests and fitness trackers to pregnancy apps, mental health tools, medical records, and predictive algorithms, panelists will explore how personal health information is commodified, often without true consent or transparency.
We’ll ask: Who really owns your health data—and who profits from it? If digital medical records are fifty times more valuable than financial data, what does consent mean when information becomes currency? And how might communities reclaim agency over their own bodies and information in systems that often exclude or exploit them?
The first event in the new (In)Justice Series on Data & Power invites participants to reflect on the ethics, impact, and future of sharing our most personal data, and to imagine alternatives rooted in justice, transparency, and care.
